Airlines are taking inspiration from five-star boutique hotels by reinvesting in premium and luxury accommodations. 

The latest eye-catching evolution is Etihad Airways’ Residence Cabin on the Airbus A380 – a three-room onboard apartment for two travelers with a personal butler and private ensuite bathroom with shower launching in December 2014.

As the gap between flying private and flying first class becomes shrinks, airlines will be upping their game to attract passengers. Boutique-style amenities and larger spaces are the logical next step aboard long-haul flights now that most airlines offer flat beds, entertainment systems, and gourmet cuisine in first class.
